Designing the Future of Chassis System Technology for Electric Vehicles
The Challenge
In the quest to minimize vehicle NVH, develop noise reduction control algorithms.
Result
Applying our Systems Engineering experience along with our MATLAB, dSPACE, and strong mathematical analysis capabilities, Pilot Systems successfully developed and implemented a fully functional control system in both the virtual and real worlds that achieved noise reduction above and beyond the client's expectations.
The rapid pace of vehicle electrification is prompting many Tier 1 automotive suppliers to develop innovative new technologies. Our client's vision was to develop a system to substantially improve the Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) performance especially of electric vehicles. To achieve their goal they needed a team of experts who would rapidly design and then integrate an active control system solution with their mechanical systems. Pilot Systems brought this expertise. We started the project by fully understanding the concept and clearly defining customer requirements including timelines, budgets, and resources. Under the strong technical guidance of our Controls Subject Matter Expert (PhD, 30+ years of controls development), Pilot Systems engineers developed multiple control approaches, evaluated their performance by executing closed loop simulations in MATLAB and Simulink, and implemented the optimized controllers on an experimental test bench using dSPACE Rapid Control Prototyping hardware. The Pilot Systems team delivered results documented in an exhaustive report beyond our customers’ expectations.
